A picture book which has gleaned through photograph archives to find photographs, postcards, rug dealer's cards etc. Pictures include rugs underfoot during the welcoming of Emperor Wilhelm II in 1917, rugs in front and under the supervisors who restored the Grand Bazar after the 1984 earthquake, rugs inside a mosque in Nide, rugs in front of the class of an Istanbul Armenian school in 1932, rugs in front and in back of families, brides and grooms and on and on. 2015, 99 p., 182 illus., nearly all in black and white, 30 x 23 cm. As might be expected, the focus is often on people, showing them standing on, or in front of rugs.

A survey of kilims which starts slowly: what a kilim is, who makes them, how to buy (and sell), and then works up to a fairly detailed description of current, and sometimes former production for both major and minor (Albania, Algeria, Iraq) kilim producing areas. General guide for a beginner; on modern rugs; the range of coverage is extensive, from Bulgaria and Egypt to the traditional areas, so depth is sometimes lacking, but the print is small and the author packs in a lot - thus 3 paragraphs on gold, sun and luster washes; there is forthright advice on value and resale possibilities of specific rug types.

The author is listed as the secretary general of the Armenian Museum in France. Many of the copies we have seen of this title have had much wear and tear on the covers and spine, and sometimes with the spine detached.
